About Riley

Riley is 28 years old. I mentioned in an earlier post “Just Another Label” that R has a lot of labels.  Riley has autism, ADHD, tic and seizure disorders.  R is verbal, uses delayed echolalia much of the time and has a severe language processing disorder.  I’m sure he probably has a few more unconfirmed diagnosis (OCD comes to mind) but we’ve decided to stop at four.

We started R on medication for his ADHD around the end of grade 3 when we (along with the school team) decided his behaviours were starting to interfere with his ability to learn and socialize at school.

R started having seizures around age 15.  It is not uncommon for kids with autism to develop seizures with the onset of puberty.  After having a 24 hour EEG (an entire blog post in itself), it was determined R was having complex partial seizures.  He later went in for a sedated MRI as a precaution.  He has been seizure free since starting medication (tegretol).

Riley attended our neighbourhood public school(s) since kindergarten.  He finished high school in June 2013. Yes…G & I are STILL freaking out!!!  We have embarked on a new phase in Riley World...the Wonderful World of Adulthood. I hope you will come back to read all about our new adventures.
