Halloween Costumes
#Monday Listicles

I will admit when I was a kid Halloween was one of my favourite occasions. Dressing up and running around the neighbourhood at night getting candy for doing absolutely nothing…doesn’t get any better than that!

OK...slight exaggeration.

I remember going out Trick or Treating and having to go home at least 2-3 times to “unload” our bags/pillowcases of goodies because they got toooo heavy to carry. Something that is unheard of these days with the size of the so-called “treats” that get handed out. Ya ya too much sugar isn’t good…pre-packaged treats only…blah blah blah. Why when I was growing up…oh. Sorry.  Got a bit carried away.

Anyways “10 Halloween Costumes” is this week’s Monday Listicles. Apparently a very hot topic for Bridget, Brandee, Robbie and Sisterhood of Moms who all made the same suggestion to Stasha.

(Begin sarcastic font here) Being the eco-friendly family that we are (End sarcastic font) we recycle costumes. Dressing up was not exactly something the boys looked forward to (especially R) so I included a few years of yours truly to stretch out my list.

Numbers 1 and 2:  Little Red Riding Hood (circa 1962 and 1963)

Left to Right:  Me & My Sister (1962)

Numbers 3 and 4:  Devil and Vampire

(1994)
(1995)

Number 5:
Skeleton and Devil: The 2nd Coming

(1997)

Number 6:  Pirates I

(2000)

Number 7:  Cat in the Hat and Vampire II:  In J2’s final days of Trick or Treating and much to my surprise he actually donned some make-up for his Vampire II appearance.

(2002)

Numbers 8 through 10+:  Pirates II:  Once J2 was done with Halloween I was so relieved that we no longer had to be concerned about dressing up. Or so I thought. When R entered high school you can imagine my shock when the night before Halloween Riley was excitedly talking about getting dressed up. Wait.  What?  When.  Tomorrow?  Really?  Thus the beginning of the Pirate II Era.

Thanks to Johnny Depp and Pirates of the
Caribbean...lots of pirate paraphernalia around.

As you can see we aren't exactly a family that goes all out. Thank goodness we have a lot of black and red in our closets. Ha!  Do you like getting dressed-up???  Don't forget to go check out what everybody else came up with.

  1. My son did Jack Sparrow too one year! Great costumes, and it was fun to see yours as well!

    1. The costumes and accessories that are out there now-a-days are unbelievable! R's pretty "particular" so prefers home-grown stuff but not being exactly the craftiest person...was not about to attempt a pirate hat. Ha!

  2. A fun post...what a pile of candy though.

    1. Back in the day......Haaahaaahaa! There was one neighbour who gave out freshly baked gingerbread men which were devoured along the way. Another worked at a bakery so gave out mini loaves of bread. They were the most popular in the neighbourhood. :D

  3. I always offer a bowl of chocolates and the neighborhood kids take out one! ONE! So sophisticated, this youth.
Love your costumes, one can never be a pirate too much!

    1. We never get any kiddies as we live up a long, dark driveway in a very hilly area. :( On the upside when the boys were little, I would go hang out at our friend's place and she & I would drink wine and hand out candy while the husbands took the kids around. :) Win-Win!!!

  4. How cute were you!! And the kids just look so adorable in their costumes. Sometimes I wish we did Halloween, just for the costume side of things alone.

    1. Honestly I'm not much of a "dresser-upper". My husband loves to but I follow more along the lines of Ri.

  5. I was a punk rocker for at least 4 years straight. It was fun to throw stuff together from the dress up box that didn't normally go together. I don't remember my mom buying any store made costumes. If we didn't create it on our own, and label it punk rocker, then my mom was infront of the sewing machine. She made some great stuff!

    1. Back in the days when a chocolate bar was a full-size one. Then again I probably only weighed about 40 lbs so anything seemed heavy back then. Ha!

  8. Look at all those devils! I wish I had a childhood Halloween photo--my parents never took photos on Halloween. Such a loss!

    1. I love looking at old photos. Too bad I hardly ever print any out anymore with digital...pros and cons I guess.

  9. Such cute pictures of you! And I love recycled costumes. So far the 2 year old isn't into dressing up this year, and the baby just cries when I put his lion costume on him Ha ha!
