The Same or Different than My Younger Self... #Monday Listicles

Christine over at Random Reflectionz picked this week’s topic “10 Ways You are the Same or Different than your Younger Self.”  Gee had I known Monday Listicles would be a lesson in ancient history…

1.     I have always and still love roller coasters. The bigger and faster the better.

2.    I hated my hair growing up. Having poker straight and coarse hair it was very rare to get my hair to do anything remotely in-style. I tried everything from the pixie cut to the page boy to the Farrah Fawcett. The best look by far was the “loose curl/afro” via the au naturale perm. Stop laughing. One of the pluses of losing my hair was I no longer colour my hair and having more salt than pepper these days, I keep it short and spiky so it takes no time to get ready.

3.      Pretty sure my chest measurement is the same as when I was 10.

4.      When I was a kid I was a tiny little thing. Smallest in the class all the way through elementary school. Did not much care for food. I ate to survive. What the hell happened!!!

5.      Unfortunately as a result of number 4…my waist has grown exponentially.

The one of the left was unacceptable!
6.      I had quite a few OCD tendencies when I was a kid. My socks had to be even as in one could not appear lower/higher on my calf than the other; my shoelaces had to line up straight across and not cock-eyed; t-shirts had to be folded with the exact same amount of shoulder showing on each side of the collar…I KNOW!  My uhhh “idiosyncrasies” have changed over the years. Now-a-days I just don’t care any more consider myself completely cured…almost.

7.      I used to like to win. Who doesn’t?  I have mellowed a LOT as I have gotten older. My family, however, seems to think I am slightly competitive. If by competitive they mean taking out my opponent in a game of Sequence or Spoons at all costs weeelll…losers. *wink*

8.      I was never EV-VER going to say to my kids what our mom used to say to us “If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you???”  I mean really. What a stupid thing to say to your kids. Turns out I was wrong and sometimes that is THE ONLY THING that is appropriate to say.

9.      Even though I am more cautious these days I have always been a bit of a dare devil. I have jumped out of a plane, gone river rafting, and most recently jumped off a cliff in Mexico.

10. I still have friends that I made in elementary and high school. We may not see each other as often as we would like these days but when we do get together it is as if things have never changed and THAT sometimes is a good thing.

  1. Wow you've jumped out of a plane? I don't think I could do it - too chicken!

    1. That was back in my 20's when I was fearless. It was definitely an amazing feeling although I'm not sure I could do it now...actually getting afraid of heights believe it or not. Oish.

  2. I didn't know you were such an adventure-seeker, Diane! Love it! This was a really fun post that made me think a lot about what my own list would look like.

    1. Yah yah...an "adventure-seeker"...that's what I am. Unfortunately my body is starting to slow me down. Ha!

You should give this link up a try Bec...it's always fun to day dream. :)

  3. I love roller coasters too! I haven't been on a really good one in years. In another year, our youngest will be old enough that we can go to Canada's Wonderland (or whatever it's called now) and mama can have some fun. prove I am not as boring as they think!

Thanks to nursing 3 kids, my chest is definitely bigger than at 10 years old! ha

    1. We have one of the best wooden roller coasters here. No seat belts or shoulder thingies...just a bar. You actually come up off the seat! My older son is a ride lover too. Ri...not so much. ;P

  4. Great to read that you still have friends from back in elementary school/high school. Most of the friends that I had back then I have already lost contact of them.

    1. I do consider myself very lucky and it helps that I have lived in the same city all my life as do most of my childhood friends. :)

  5. I say so many things my grandma used to. I even googled a Unicef video on starving children in Africa to add to the sermon about 'you are so lucky to have food' to my son. naturally, like you I was a full on #4 too. But you should see me now. My 5 year old self is rolling in pain and shame somewhere in parallel universe.
Love this list, that jump is awesome D!!!

  6. I too was tiny and hated my straight hair when I was growing up. I'm no longer tiny and now at least straight hair is in! haha!

    1. Haahaahaa...good point. Sure don't envy anyone having to straighten their hair. :)

  7. The way you phrased #3 cracked me up! #6 - I was with you on the socks. Everything had to be even! Equal! Left. Right. Same!
    Very funny list!

    1. I rock in my sweat pants too and I can SO relate to your string/band OCD. I also went through a time where if I scratched one arm, I had to scratch the other one even if it wasn't itchy just to feel "balanced".

    1. Still love roller coasters. Heights are starting to bother me so was actually quite terrified jumping off that "cliff" but since J2 went first...couldn't very well let him one up me. Ha!

  9. Anal retentive and competitive. Hmmm... sounds like someone I know. Yep, you guessed it. That would be me. HAHAHA! So jealous that you've done the skydiving thing!

    1. Sounds like we may have been separated at birth...only about 15 years apart and one of our parents was the milkman. Haahaa!

  10. Jumping out of a plane was one of the best things I ever did! And I love your competitive streak! Roller Coasters aren't my favorite though
