Ringing In a new year...

Haaaallooooo????  Anybody there???

I have been struggling for the past week or so trying to write a post to sum up this past year. After all it is tradition to look back and celebrate/mourn and bid farewell/good riddance to the current year. I got about as far as making this picture on PicMonkey last week.

2013 was indeed an eventful year in Riley World.

Yet here I sit.

Past noon on the last day of 2013.

Staring at a blank page.

Tapping the keyboard…hoping that something inspiring would appear on the blank page.

Whistling. Yes. I did whistle.

And still……

Nada.  *heavy sigh*

I even went so far as trying different spacing.  *wink*

And then…it hit me. I have NEVER liked New Year’s Eve. For me there has always been a certain pressure around it. When I was younger I felt I needed to have THE best time of the year on the 31st. Now???  Heck…I can barely stay up until midnight and there is something to be said about comfy clothes and having your bed only steps away.

And let us not forget the pressures of making resolutions… “dieting” usually made my list year after year. GAH!!!

And don’t get me started on the over-priced, over-inflated costs of a night out on the town!!!

Eeep…forgive me. See! Scarred I tell ya. Is there a term for a New Year’s Eve Scrooge?!?!?

So until tomorrow...

From our family to yours…may 2014 bring good health, much happiness and many exciting adventures!!!

  1. Happy new year to you! :)

    1. And all the best for 2014 to you too Lisa!!!

  2. I can't tell you how many years we were in bed before the clock struck 12:00. It was many, for sure.
    Here's to a fantastic 2014!

    1. Same to you Christine!! My girlfriends & I lasted until the ball dropped and then we quickly dispersed to our beds. Haha!

  3. I so agree --- it's the most over-hyped holiday of the year in my opinion. In my younger days before hubby, home, and offspring, I am sure I "whooped" it up much more. In fact, I have one blurry photo of some strange guy kissing me by the outdoor fountain covered in snow in my hometown: No Idea who he is. Or who took the picture and gave it to me.
See - right there is why you should never look back! LOL
    But just look forward.
I have actually spent the last 7 New Years' putting kids to bed, and sitting by the fire alone because hubby had to work. This year we had a skating party with friends, hot cocoa, and I actually rang in the New Year - in pj's by the fire - but with my honey. And that's good enough for me.
Happy New Year and all the best in 2014!

    1. "Pj's by the fire with your honey"...heaven!!

Looking forward to keeping up with you and your tribe this coming year. Cheers and nothing but the best for you!

  4. Wow what an eventful year you guys have had! Happy new year to you all, here's hoping your 2014 brings more laughs than frowns :)

    1. Laughs are good! Laugh "lines"...not so much. ;)

Hope this year brings you even more fun adventures (although I'm not sure how you're going to top this year) and good health to you and yours!

      DI xoxox

  5. I just remember as a kid getting a McDonald's coloring calendar from Santa every year, and counting down the seconds until Jan. 1, because it meant I could use the first month's coupon! Every year is that blank coloring book with a surprise every month.

And this year, I don't even mind if I don't always color in the lines.

    1. McDonald's had coloring/coupon calendars!!! :O I WANT ONE!!! I mean...I'm sure R would love to get one of those. *wink*

Way to be a rebel this year!
