Another 11th Hour #TToT post...

If you grew up watching Charlie Brown Specials this adapted quote may ring a bell…

Maybe next week I’ll get my list done before the eleventh hour!

1.      Random holidays. For just the second year, Monday marked “Family Day” where I live. It was a (provincial not national) statutory holiday. Two-thirds of the country observes a February stat holiday, which coincides with Presidents Day in the US, except for the province where I live. It was the week before. Dare to be different indeed.

2.      My doctor retired almost a year ago. The Health Centre we go to did not have anyone to take over for my GP so we needed to find a new one. I had not found one yet. Granted I think I would have needed to look for one. In the meantime R and I would go to the doctor on call there to renew our meds since our files were all there. This time we saw a lovely young woman. We talked, I nervously laughed and she listened. I liked her. I had a good feeling about her. And then she said those magic words “I can take you on if you’d like.” I am pretty sure she felt sorry for us. I’m okay with that.

3.      Since I am all about spreading awareness…I am going with the trend to rename February 14thSingle’s Awareness Day”.  Who needs to pay triple for chocolates/flowers anyways?  G was most thankful.

4.      Every Friday after we finish working at “Lori’s library”, Riley and I go for lunch. Whenever we go someplace new I go into training mode.

First Riley orders “Plain udon with no seasoning please.”

Then I translate: “A bowl of plain udon. NO green onions. NO garnish. Nothing. Just noodles and broth please. Nothing else.”

We are used to getting the puppy dog head tilt and confused look, followed by some question clarifying we do indeed just want noodles and broth. We go with it. It is easier that way.

And yet…every so often we get a bowl of noodles with something else in it. *sigh* I would bet the chef who does this does not have children and the thought of food being served without some type of garnish is blasphemy.

The gentleman who takes our order on Fridays has passed basic training with flying colours. I hope he stays forever.

5.      We had to pick up a few things at the store on the way home. After I finished paying R said loudly and clear as a bell (to me) “Thanks for using my debit card!”  There was printer ink for R among the items so let’s just leave it at that.

6.      One of my favourite bloggers in the whole wide world started doing a Friday Link-Fest. I was thrilled to have my post “Being the Best That You Can Be” included. Thank you Bec at Snagglebox!!! Be sure to watch the video at the beginning.

7.      Who doesn’t like getting a compliment right?? I started a Step class with my dragon boat team about a month ago. One would think one would only be required to “Step” up and down. Not so. Dance-type steps and a certain amount of coordination are required. Why didn’t anybody tell me!

Yesterday the instructor came over and told me “You did a really good job today.” At 53…it still makes me feel giddy all over. And here I thought nobody noticed when I was tripping over “the step” the first couple of weeks.

8.      My first exposure to social media was Twitter. I started tweeting and blogging at the same time. I was not and I repeat NOT going to get sucked into Facebook. And then I did. And then life as I knew it was over.

One of my first Twitter friends was Robbie who blogs over at Fractured Family Tales. She and her friend Jen of Dancing in the Rain wanted to “get some of the friendly exchanges back into our social media lives. To just chat with people. Gab. Jabber. Prattle. Engage in friendly discourse.” and so decided to start a Hashtag movement to #KeepSMSocial. I thought it was a great idea! I decided to join in. I need to brush up on my tweeting skills.

9.      R’s sleeping habits have been all over the map lately. Waking and getting dressed as early as 3am. WTH!! I am SO thankful that the days of having to stay up with him have passed. I have no idea what he does. I am sleeping.  :P

10.      Self-explanatory.

Have a great week!!!

  2. One of my kids hates red sauce, so he has oftentimes ordered plain pasta noodles. He gets the funniest looks from waiters and waitresses. They always have to ask, "Plain noodles? No butter? No sauce of any kind? Plain?" Plain is really hard for people to understand.

Glad you were able to stumble upon a new doctor. Really wish I could do the same. *sigh*

Congrats on being named in the link-up fest thing!

Your random holidays make no sense to me.

Ack! Another person making Twitter look fun! People aren't allowed to have fun on social media to which I am not involved! ;) I kid! Glad you are finding a way to actually have fun with it. Makes me nervous, though, that you once refused to join FB, because I am NOT going to join twitter.

    2. Plain IS hard! I remember once G having to run the fettuccine noodles through his fingers because they could not resist putting parsley on them and that was for J2!!! :O

And yes...be afraid...very, very afraid. You read Lizzi's comment right??? ;)

  3. I loved those Charlie Brown specials desperately. Now we have most of them on DVD and Kidzilla is loving them. So much fun!

Yeah, step class, by the way, is freaking hard - all that dancing! I always got pretty happy when I didn't faceplant over the stupid step. That was a good day.

Valentine's Day isn't our biggest holiday here - very low key. I didn't even get my Valentine's Day post up until today. Mostly because it wasn't really about Valentine's Day, I guess.

    Have a great week!

    1. Charlie Brown specials always were the highlight of TV for me growing up too!! R went through a stage of the Christmas/Halloween and Valentine specials too. :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Step class is hard!! And what's with those risers people use!?!?! I think I'll pass. Ha!

  4. Ahhhh well done on getting a compliment at your step class - that's so cool.

HUZZAH for a sensible chef who LISTENS to what his customer wants.

And YAY! for the Twitter party - it was so much FUN wasn't it? I kept getting lost though - it all moved very quickly. I think we kept up though, and nobody knew we didn't know what we were doing with it :D

    1. We used to go to a restaurant across town. The waitress there LOVED R and would bring him his pop (with no ice) as we were sitting down and had his order down pat. I could have cried when they closed down! :(

I finally had to bug out of the Twitter party. Was getting so overwhelmed but it was fun indeed. Going to give it a go again this Saturday! :D

  5. Family day here in Ontario for me too. Not that we celebrate it though as hubby is a workaholic and always ends up working. My doctor retired about 12 years ago and we got stuck with this doctor that none of us care for. We've been looking for a new one ever since. Orillia has a shortage so I may have to start looking in another city.

    1. 12 YEARS AGO!!! :O I know what you mean about having someone you're not particularly thrilled with. Same happened with me. It's never really been an issue before but now that R & I need constant refills...we have to keep going back.

      Happy Stat Holiday! ;)

  6. As a woman so saddened that her absolutely plain hamburger, just meat on a bun, is handed to her sporting cheese that her son will not eat, I understand how much you want that employee in #4 to stick around.

  7. Family Day? You get something called Family Day? You get something called Family Day AND it's a holiday?! I'M MOVING TO CANADA!

I spent many, many years ordering refried beans in Mexican restaurants for my son that were plain. No cheese. No sour cream. No little sprinkles of parsley to make it pretty. Plain. I TOTALLY get the noodle thing.

Aww, you got a "good job" from your aerobics instructor! I totally get THAT, too!

Very happy for you that you found a primary care doctor that you like! Even if she took you out of pity....

    1. I know...I used to make fun of my relatives who lived in provinces that celebrated Family Day. Until last year. :P

Haha...nothing wrong with a medical professional taking pity on a person right??? :D

  8. I decided to "celebrate" Single's Awareness Day with/for a divorced friend of mine. I didn't make it on the 14th but surprised her on the 15th (wiki says it can be celebrated either day) with a cool hot/cold tumbler and diet coke (her fav!).

Step...that brings back memories of when my kids were in preschool (15 plus years ago)! I took classes at the Y while they were at school. I really enjoyed my step classes. They are much harder to find these days :( ...at least in the Midwest (US).

    1. If it weren't for my team...I'm sure I would've never tried Step classes. It reminds me of going to an aerobic class and feeling very uncoordinated until you start to learn the steps. Haha!

  9. - Um, yeah. I’m afraid we’re going to need some video of the step class for verification… you understand.
    - The best Valentines Day celebration is the day after… half-off chocolates day!
    - “A bowl of plain udon” Oooh… I feel your pain! Top of my list of reasons to frequent the SAME places over… and over… and over again.
    - LOL!! “Thanks for using my debit card!” R’s version of “Thief! Thief!!” You can try to pull it off with a cheery “You’re welcome!” but I’m pretty sure welfare check calls were already being placed.
    - 3am??! Probably your typical teen... figured out when M&D won't be around to bug him. :) Don't. Tell. Kirsten.

      And that's exactly how I felt (like a thief)...hahaha!

  10. I should get back into step classes. My ass never looked better than when I did that. Not sure if my old knees could take it, but it might be worth the pain! :)
I still cannot really get into twitter. I just can't sit that long and scroll through all the updates. As soon as someone has a link -- then off I am on a world web adventure and forget to come back to twitter.

    1. Step class is NOT worth the pain. Just sayin' ;)

Lately I can't seem to get into any kind of social media or anything for that....SQUIRREL!!

  11. Shane is like that with the green stuff. I can't tell you how many times we've said "no green stuff" and it comes on there anyway. You know, I'm sure!
