Sometimes it’s the little things…

It’s not always the big things in Riley World that can confuse me. Like...

Why does he like to watch the same 7 sec sequence of a movie over and over AND OVER again?!?!?
OR
Why does he fold/pile his underwear in a certain order?!?!?

Nope. Not always.  Sometimes it's just the little things. Like...

Why does he smell so bad?!?!?

I may not have the answers to the first two questions BUT…I do for the third. Yup. Cause I’m an awesome and veteran autism mom. That’s me.

Whenever Riley has ummmm “teen scent” and is in need of assistance, all I have to do is say “I think you need to put on some deodorant” and he replies with “I’m stinky! Bleeeech!!!” and off he goes to put on some deodorant. Problem solved.

Yesterday I had to remind him about 4 times. This hasn’t happened since puberty! WTH!?!?!

Today I just happened to be in his bathroom when he came in to de-stink and I noticed this…

I wonder how long he’s been scratching his pits raw?!?!?

On the schedule this week....Stick Deodorant Basics 101.  ;)

  1. Oh no, that looks painful! I just made my 11yo start using deodorant. I guess I should make sure he knows how to twist it up too!

    1. He's hit and miss with the armpit...sometimes it's closer to the upper arm. HA! I'm surprised he didn't just throw it out. ;)

  2. I remember teaching in a high school class of all ASD teens. Part of my day included what I would call "Grooming Class" where I'd go into the classroom bathroom and go through a checklist while each student simulated various activities such as hair brushing and applying deodorant. I felt awkward at first but they were so proud of showing their independence, we usually both ended up grinning.
Except the one girl who was convinced to be angry at me because the aides thought it was funny. It wasn't. But that's a whole other story.

  3. Ha - I have been known to let the stick get down to a tiny nub too. And it does feel raw! just one of those things I never remember to buy. But I love Gucci Guilty - it's my scent so I usually just have that on.
I gotta go with Riley on the movie scenes though. I have been known to watch the Captain America emerging from the machine into Super Solider perfection several times over. ;)

    1. Hmmmmm....Gucci Guilty...it's been so long since I've worn a scent but I will have to seek that one out. :)
