Ten Things of Thankful #3

My memory is failing. Badly. It started to spiral down when I turned the big fifty-OMG a few years ago. I now need to write everything down as. it. happens. or else……I forget. This is not conducive to writing a post of Things to be Thankful for over the past week and not to be a downer but I most certainly do not have 10 Things of Thankful happening in one day. Just sayin…

1.     Bath & Body Works Soaps/Hand Sanitizers. Having a cold means lots of hand washing. Enough said.

2.      We have never mastered shoe lace tying in Riley World. It requires fine motor skills which are challenging to say the least. A fellow Special “O” mom mentioned seeing a video that looked easy to teach. I am not sure if this was the one she meant but was amazed by this "SO EASY" technique that I found on Pinterest. You’re welcome.

Oh. Just a heads up…the “basic tying your shoe knot” needs to be mastered first. *sigh*

3.      My Dragon Boat team. Although our paddling season is finished, we have started “dry-land training” at a boxing/fitness facility. I have always wanted to say that. It makes me feel/sound like I am actually physically active and in shape. I am not. AT. ALL. Going with my teammates makes it that much harder to bail especially on those days when I would rather be sitting in front of my computer trying to blog or on social media.

4.      My boxing targets. G bought them for me for my birthday. The ones at the gym are used by everyone. They are stinky. No. No. They are downright rank-smelling! And even though you wear wraps on your hands, sticking them into sweaty and damp targets is just plain gross!

5.      Bec who blogs at Snagglebox came all the way from Australia on a whirlwind North American vacation and came to the city where I live. I was thrilled to be able to meet her IN REAL LIFE! She is even more awesome in person!  <3

6.      Riley and I were out and about running errands. I could not help but look over at him and even though he was grumbling and not happy AT ALL…he made me smile. The smallest things (like skipping a shower, sleeping on the couch, or having 2 pops/sodas on the weekend) make him happy. We should all be a little more like Riley.

7.      Every so often J2 forces me to let loose and practice my bat shit crazy/psycho mom voice. What amazes me is after feeling guilty all afternoon about losing it; he will come home and be in the best. mood. EVER! I am thankful that he sees things MY way.  ;P

8.      Snack size Popcorn Twists. Yes there are 58 snack size treat bags. Yes I can eat a dozen few at a time. Thankfully they only come out at Halloween time.

9.      Sports teams who fundraise for cancer awareness. Today the local rugby club held a cancer fundraiser. They (even the men’s teams) wore pink jerseys and pink striped socks. Have you ever seen a rugby game?? We are talking hardcore. SO awesome to see them in pink!

10.   Just to end on a positive note…I am thankful that I still buy green bananas.  :D

Have yourself a great week!!

  1. Rugby is HUGE over here. Everyone should watch a game. Played by REAL MEN, not like those namby-pambies in the football leagues! My Bro-in-law is a rugby player, and just watching the team all hurtle around, crashing into each other...SO much fun. Quite the warrior game, and I totally understand the attraction - those guys are pumped!

I love how thankful Riley is for the little things. I agree - we should try to emulate that.

Dragon boat racing sounds fun! I don't think I've heard of it - I'll have to look it up :)

    And...er...what's a popcorn twist?

    1. Haahaa...namby-pambies! That's the word I was looking for. :D

This was my first season of Dragon boating. It's a breast cancer survivor team and I absolutely loved it!!!

Posted a pic of popcorn twists on my FB page. ;P

    2. Ya know I'm now going to have to go and look up what a Dragon boat is, right? Sounds a little Viking...

      namby-pambies :) Good.

And I went, I saw, I left you a further question...

  2. I love to buy green bananas too. I don't like it if they get too soft -- and that can happen quick if you buy them already down the ripe path. And this time of year I keep sanitizers in the car. Those sound wonderful, will have to look them up.

    1. Bath & Body finally came up to Canada a few years ago. Before then I would go to the States and stock up. Best. Soap. EVER!!!!

  5. How exciting that you got to meet a blog friend all the way from Australia! It had to be fun.
I didn't know you were on a Dragon Boat team. My MIL joined one almost 2 years ago, and she loves it.
#7 cracked me up. My kids give me the opportunity to practice my crazy voice quite often. I don't always take them up on the offer, but sometimes it's just too tempting.
I have never had popcorn twists. I don't think I'll try them after hearing how you have to ration yourself.
I have never seen a rugby game. I don't think I could handle it. I have a hard enough time watching soccer, which is supposed to be a non-contact sport.
So glad you linked up with us again this week!

    1. It was really great to meet a bloggie friend in person! I was a little nervous. I mean what if I didn't like her?!? Baahaahaa! Are you up for a roadtrip??? :)

I am loving the Dragon Boating too!!! Nearly killed me in the beginning but it's great to be out on the water.

I usually try to bite my tongue too but a mom can only take SO much before she blows. ;P

    2. That is always a consideration when meeting someone IRL. :) I have no idea where you live in Canada, but someday. My mom is from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I keep telling her that one of these years she and I are going to drive through Canada to get back there. Are you anywhere between Indiana and Nova Scotia?

    3. Unfortunately I am on the other coast. :( Guess in the meantime we'll continue our on-line, long distance relationship. ;)

  6. I love #7 - all moms have that voice, I think. It's just a question of who makes us use it and how often. :) In this house, we have an ADHD child and two ADD/ADHD parents. That crazy voice pops up a lot over here!

And #6. You are right - we should all be so happy for the simple joys in life. I have to agree with the skipping a shower and sleeping on the couch - great childhood memories go with those!

    1. Phew! Glad I'm not the only one who uses that crazy voice. :)

Too bad J2 couldn't be a little happier for the simply joys in life. Oi-vay.

  7. I think I'll share that green bananas link with my mom, as my grandma now lives with her. The dragon boat team sounds like fun--and a lot of work!

    1. The first time I heard about "green bananas" it cracked me up. Dragon boating is a ton of fun and yes...it is a lot of work too but we go for a beer and wings afterwards. :)

  8. That shoe tying video was so cool! Does it hold? (I am currently barefoot and couldn't try it out.)

How completely and totally awesome that you got to meet a bloggy friend in real life! Jealous!

I give up. What are popcorn twists?

I think you and I are about the same age. I buy green bananas, too!

    1. It (shoe tying) actually does...well just as good as any other way. :)

I think I would really like to be about the same age as you. ;P Thank you for thinking so. I see we are both still alive though...I mean survivors. *chest pump*

    2. Big ol' loser that I am, I just now read your "about me" page. We are sistahs! (Is it bad to say I really don't go in for all that "pink sister" stuff and survivor this and that?). Forced into menopause? Back fat? Muffin top? We need to talk, girl! We're the same person!

And I STILL don't know what popcorn twists are....

    3. You read my take on "survivor" then right??? I've always liked the colour pink otherwise I'd be like you.

There's a pic of what popcorn twists are on my FB page. If you're really curious you can check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/OurAdventuresWithRiley

    4. Hmmmm....maybe not. Just noticed I haven't 'updated' my About Me page...well my age that is. ;P

  9. It is truly amazing how we tend to ignore the simple pleasures that make others so happy at times. Just goes to show how numb we've grown, doesn't it? Riley seems like a great kid, for sure. Dragon Boat? Okay, now I've got to go do a search on that to see what the hell you're talking about! lol And, yes, I still buy green bananas, too. Gives me time to get through the bunch of them before they spoil! Really a nice post!

  10. You put together a lovely list!

Thanks for the shoe lace tying, I will check it out (but I guess it is still way too early to try to teach it to my son).

Great that you got your own boxing gear. It must be really gross to use the ones everyone else is using, too.

    Have a wonderful week!
