Ten Things of Thankful...Week 2 of 20

I was a little frazzled what with hosting our family’s Thanksgiving dinner so I cut a few corners and reposted last year’s Thanksgiving Thankful post. I know. What can I say???  The pressure got to me.

So this week I knew I had to come up with some really, really thankful stuff. Just so you know…I do not work well under pressure.

Anyway…here goes.

1.      I am thankful for my sister who makes THE BEST devilled eggs on earth!! What??? You beg to differ?? Well you would be wrong. Go ahead. Try one and dare to tell me they are not THE BEST!!!

2.      I am thankful for turkey leftovers because they always taste better the next day (especially when you cooked the original dinner).

3.      I am thankful for Riley who at 19 wants to share his feelings/emotions (I WILL BE WHINING! and let us not forget “I WILL BE ANGRY!”) with me over and over and *sigh* over again.

4.      I am thankful for not getting sick very often. I have a terrible man cold at the moment. I admit it. I am miserable. Enough said.

5.      I am thankful for my friend Lori who lets me travel 45 minutes each way in order to have Riley shelve books for an hour in her school’s library.  :)  Seriously…I really appreciate her. I was looking for ways to fill Riley’s days with meaningful work now that he is finished school and she came through for us. Thank you Lori!!!

6.      I am thankful for Kleenex. 3 Ply. With Lotion. See number 4 for further explanation.

7.      I am thankful for Facebook. It was my birthday last week and although I do not celebrate my birthday any more…I felt extra special to have so many IRL and virtual friends leaving me greetings. Do you think anybody would notice if I changed my birth date to next Wednesday?!?  ;P

8.      I am thankful for nose spray. Too much information?!? I get it. I swore I would never, EVER use the stuff. Again…see number 4 for further explanation.

9.      I am thankful for Costco’s great customer service. I needed to return a couple of items I bought in the summer and could not locate the bill. The tags were still on. They took them back for a full refund.

10.   I am thankful for naps. Speaking of which…catch ya later.

  1. Awwwwww sleep sweet and heal quickly.

I swear, a cold took ahold recently and wound up in a Twitter conversation where a BRAND NEW product of awesomeness was invented. It might LOOK like menthol-soaked Tampax minis, for your nose, but actually it's the wonderful, revolutionary new COLDSTOPPER!

So glad that you have people around you helping Riley to become a functioning, contributing member of the post-school world. Long and successful may that continue.

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY :D :D Have another one this very weekend, if you fancy!

    3. Clark, Clark, Clark - a thing is what you make it, right? Welcome to my reality, where these things can be dual purpose!

Diane, I'm'a send you a boxful as soon as they're off the production line...er...after I've found a sponsor to GET a production line...

    4. I'm not sure that it would take a Y chromosome to find that whole idea pretty icky...still I do hope you feel better soon. And happy birthday! who stops celebrating birthdays what's that about?

    5. I once stuck a tampon in a dripping faucet and it worked like a charm. I think you're onto something, Lizzi. TAMPONS, CLARK, TAMPONS, TAMPONS, TAMPONS.

    6. Haahaa...this has taken on another life of its own! Definitely an icky factor Zoe. I've also reached the age where I may start counting backwards. ;P

  2. I hope your nap was lovely! I discovered nasal spray a few years ago and wondered why in the world I never used it before. I have tried to convince the children of it's amazing decongestant powers, but they remain unwilling to give it a go. They are totally missing out.

    1. It's taken me 50 years to finally give it a try and even though it does have amazing powers...I am not at all thrilled to use it. :)

  3. I LOVE that Riley is shelving books. I was a library helper after school in elementary school and was so proud to be a part of it! I a a huge fan of deviled eggs but rarely make them as it seems like too much work for me. Are deviled eggs a traditional part of your Thanksgiving?

    1. Riley seems to be enjoying it (ie. he's not balking). :)

Deviled eggs have become a tradition at ALL family dinners now. We ALL love them! I'm like you, it seems like waaaay too much work to make. Thankfully my sister doesn't seem to mind!

  4. glad to see you here this week, no the things about pressure... though I have convinced myself of the opposite... I write best at the last minute (of course, that I am catching up on Saturday Comments on Sunday afternoon has no bearing on the matter).
    lol

  5. I totally agree on the nose spray and lotion tissues, they make a cold at least a little more bearable.

  6. Deviled eggs are at every one of our family gatherings, too. My mom and I are the only ones who makes them, but everyone eats them. No joke, two dozen will be gone within 3 minutes of the container being opened. Wish we lived closer and could have a contest. :)

Nasal spray, huh? It just sounds so...counterproductive to put MORE liquid in your nose. And gross. and uncomfortable. But it works? Maybe I'll give it a try, if I ever get a cold again. Crossing my fingers I don't. Ever.

    Happy Belated Birthday!!

    1. We only have half your crew...I can only imagine how quickly 2 dozen would be devoured!!!

Nasal spray is definitely gross, uncomfortable and gives "some" comfort. Desperate times call for desperate measures I'm afraid. :(

      Thanks!

  7. I love turkey leftovers--maybe you should try turkey soup to help that cold. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Glad that your son has found meaningful work.

    Costco's return policy is wonderful!

Gotta love Costco on so many levels!

  8. The BEST part about turkey dinners are the leftovers! We make a bucket of gravy when we roast a turkey, because you only get one shot to make that with the drippings you have.

I haven't had a full-blown cold (great, I've just jinxed myself) in over a year and a half. When I get one, though, I always name it after the person (usually a preschool student) who gave it to me.

Have you tried a nettie pot? I have the same thing in squirt bottle form, and it works fairly well at breaking stuff (THAT'S SNOT, CLARK) up and getting it out of your head. It's not much fun to do, though.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  11. Nose spray is essential when you have a cold! I always use it because I found out that I do not feel that sick anymore when my nose is not stuffed.

    What are deviled eggs?

    1. As much as I hate having to use nose spray...it really does do the trick! Nothing worse than a stuffed up head. :(

Deviled eggs? Here's a link for you: http://allrecipes.com/recipes/appetizers-and-snacks/deviled-eggs/
They are sooooo tasty as long as you like eggs. :D
